SO YOU THINK YOU CAN’T DANCE?

I often hear people exclaim they can’t dance when I tell them I teach Tango and it makes me scratch my head. Maybe you feel like you have no rhythm or 2 left feet, maybe you have limited mobility or some social anxiety- but in all my experience I have never met someone who cannot dance! Only those who have never tried! I firmly believe we are all dancers if we allow ourselves to try, and that Tango is a great option for those who have their doubts. Set in a 4/4 rhythmical structure, and based in Walking and Embracing, its physical requirements are few. For Tango you don’t need perfect balance or a young body- only curiosity, some effort, and some patience.

Anyone who goes to a Tango beginner lesson learns early on Tango is good social fun, moderate exercise, and a viewpoint into Argentina’s Music, History, and Culture. However, a student will also quickly learn what is deeper and unique about Tango compared with other dances: as an improvised partner dance Tango’s essence is found in the layers of communication, connection, collaboration, and attention that bind it all together and make it magic.
